Cozy Winter Stays at Madeira in Fife ❄️

Winter always seems to sneak up on us here. One day the garden is still clinging to autumn, and the next there’s frost on the grass, the air smells like woodsmoke, and the whole place feels calm and still.

It’s one of our favourite times at Madeira, quieter, slower, softer. The cottages feel extra warm and welcoming, the treehouses seem to hide deeper in the woods, and the evenings stretch out into long, peaceful nights. It’s the perfect time to escape for a few days, slow down, and just breathe.

What’s Happening Nearby 🎄

Winter in the East Neuk has a lovely, quiet energy. The crowds disappear, the villages light up, and everything feels a little more personal.

Here are a few things we’re excited about this season:

• Bowhouse Market: 9–10 November and 7–8 December

  Our favourite weekend outing. Great food, local makers, mulled wine, live music, and a proper festive buzz, all just five minutes down the road.

• Local Christmas Markets: Throughout November & December

  Pittenweem, Crail, and Anstruther all host their own small festive fairs. Handmade gifts, hot chocolate, and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you what small communities do best.

• Acorn Writing Retreat: 2–4 December

  One of our calmest, most creative weekends here; a few days of writing, good food, and time to reset before the year ends.
